
Great Lakes Institute for Research and Development is a local non-governmental organization dedicated to conduct legal research for promoting research-based advocacy.
The Institute is a pioneering non-profit dedicated to advancing legal research through an Afro-centric approach, championing transformative change in Rwanda, in the great lakes region and Africa. By integrating African epistemologies and community-driven insights, The Institute advocates for climate justices, promotes the ethical use of AI to enhance access to justice by promoting the legalTech, reduces systemic biases, and foster inclusivity in legal systems. The organization also prioritizes heath equity for vulnerable and underserved communities and supports efforts to eradicated gender-based violence. Through rigorous, interdisciplinary research and strategic partnerships, The Institute drives evidence-based policy reforms and empowers marginalized voices, ensuring legal framework are equitable, culturally relevant, and responsive to global challenges.
Our objectives
1. Advance Legal Research and Advocacy: Promote cutting-edge legal research on Legal Tech, environmental justice, health rights, and access to justice to inform policy, litigation, and advocacy for systemic change in Rwanda.
2. Strengthen Community and Stakeholder Capacity: Build the capacity of communities, legal practitioners, and partners in Rwanda across the region to engage with and advocate for rights-based approaches to health, environmental justice, and Legal Tech governance.
3. Enhance Evidence-Based Policy and Programming: Leverage research and knowledge management to drive evidence-based decision-making and programming in health rights, environmental justice, Legal Tech, and access to justice.
4. Enhance organizational capacity: Enhances Rwanda Institute for Research and Development capacity to attain its mission.
5. Foster Sustainable Partnerships and Resource Mobilization: Develop innovative and diversified partnerships and funding strategies to ensure the financial sustainability of legal research and advocacy initiatives in legal tech, environmental justice, and health rights.
